Joint Family Support Assistance Program (JFSAP)
The Joint Family Support Assistance Program (JFSAP) was mandated by the National Defense Authorization Act (FY07/Section 675) for "the
purpose of providing assistance to families of members of the Armed Forces."
The California JFSAP's mission is to provide mobile, high-quality family services whose primary focus is on geographically dispersed
military families. The JFSAP's goals are to increase awareness of existing services; inform leadership and service providers about range
and access to services; provide education and training opportunities for service members and their families, and provide child development
resources and referrals.

In coordination with the California JFSAP, the American Red Cross assists members of the Reserve and National
Guard with emergency communication assistance, access to financial assistance, casualty travel assistance, and various training.

The Military OneSource Consultants are the regional experts on available resources throughout California. They support all phases of the deployment
cycle for the Reserves and National Guard units throughout the state and build on community capacity networking. The consultants can connect service
members, recently separated veterans and their families to local, state and county resources.

The California JFSAP Transition Assistance Advisors are the resident experts on transitioning from military life to civilian life.
They assist service members, recently separated veterans and their families in accessing both Department of Defense and Veterans
Affairs benefits, as well as assisting in identifying resources for unmet needs. They also act as a conduit between veterans'agencies
and County Veterans Service Officers.

Military Family Life Consultants

The Military Family Life Consultants support the California JFSAP by providing short-term, situational,
problem-solving counseling for service members and their families. They provide psycho-educational presentations
addressing life skills and military lifestyle topics for units going through the phases of mobilization/demobilization
and reintegration, and assist in building community capacities.
