City accepting veterans tribute submissions

Messenger-Inquirer - 3/11/2017

March 11--The city of Owensboro, with help from the Daviess County Public Library and the public, is planning the third edition of a special tribute to deceased military veterans during Memorial Day weekend, May 26-29.

The city is inviting the public to share photos and stories of family and friends who served in the U.S. military with the "Faces of our Heroes" exhibit that will be displayed in the Owensboro Convention Center.

The pictorial tribute will feature photos and information submitted about local veterans.

A city news release said the "Faces of Our Heroes" veterans tribute was first displayed in 2015 and gave the public the opportunity to share the stories of family and friends who served in the U.S. military through a unique memorial display. "Faces of our Heroes" is an opportunity to honor deceased veterans from throughout Owensboro.

According to a city news release, the city is working with the Daviess County Public Library to gather the information for the exhibit. The public may download the registration form from the city's website ( and submit a photo of a family member in military uniform along with the registration form to the library. Submitted photos will be scanned for inclusion in the exhibit.

The exhibit is for all deceased veterans, which would include both those killed in the line of service and those that have died after their military service. There will be a special notation on the display for each veteran who was killed in the line of service.

Photos and registration forms may be submitted at the library. Entry forms may be downloaded from the city's website or picked up at the library. Photos will be scanned at the library when submitted with a registration form. Go to and click on "Quick Links" to download registration forms.

If a veteran was registered with the exhibit in 2015, there is no need to submit their information again, the city said.
