Name Writing is a writing skills training system designed to help students learn to read and write their names for individuals with a cognitive disability. By breaking name writing down into specific basic skills, this proven program teaches students to "draw" their own first names from memory. The program consists of three instructional units: Letter Order - arranging letters in a specific order; Stencil Use - recognizing that particular marks in a consistent pattern hace special meaning; and Tracing - forming these marks in a consistent pattern to make letters. The three units are taught concurrently so students simultaneously learn what and how to write. Program materials include 28 teaching strategy objectives, anticipated student responses, numerous stencils and tracing guides and a teacher's guide.
