Caltrac is an electronic motion evaluatiion system and calorie counter designed for use in measuring physical activity for people with disabilities. This beeper sized mini-computer measures movement and estimates how many calories the user has burned. The unit has a plastic case with five control buttons and a liquid crystal display (LCD) read out. The user enters his or her weight, height, age, and sex. There is a special entry for cycling/ stairclimbing/elliptical machines and weight training. The unit is placed on a belt or waistband. As the user moves, the unit measures movement and estimates how many calories the user has burned. When the user is still, the unit continues to estimate calorie burn from breathing and normal body functions. Every two minutes, the unit provides a calculation of how many calories the user has burned for the day.
