The Magic Basin is a an accessible sink with a hands-free electronic faucet designed for use by individuals with fine motor or upper extremity disabilities. Sensors in the basin's tap fittings detect the position of hands in the basin and control the water flow and temperature accordingly. In the factory setting, designed for use in public areas, placing hands in the middle of the basin activates the faucet and produces a warm water flow. The faucet is deactivated by removing hands from the water flow. The maximum time for the water to be on is one minute. Placing a hand on a blue dot in the basin produces cold water and placing a hand on a red dot produces warm water. Three temperature levels can be selected, and temperature selection is confirmed by an audio signal. The system comes with nine programs in which these features vary, including two for use in public places, three for use in homes and wellness facilities, and four for use in the medical/hygienic sector. For example, in an alternative program for use in public areas, all water flows are warm, while some programs for use in private homes and medical faciilities include very warm water flows.
