These four modular systems for upper extremity orthotics are designed for a variety of positioning and functional applications. The Engen Plastic Hand Orthosis (EPHO) provides metacarpal arch support and stabilizes the thumb in a position of prehension while allowing passive finger motion. The unit may be heat reshaped for individual modifications. Non-reinforced modules are available for supportive applications, as are radially reinforced modules for adaptations requiring stable mechanical joint applications such as reciprocal orthosis. The Reciprocal Wrist Extension finger flexion orthosis can be used for persons with C 6-7 spinal cord injury, in which active wrist extension is preserved. This unit provides dynamic 3 point prehension between thumb, index, and middle fingers. Components include an adjustable telescoping rod that enables voluntarily preset hand/forearm alignment and prehension opening. It may be modified to compensate for predominant wrist radial deviation. The brace is secured with 3 velcro straps at the forearm, hand, and fingers. The Opponens Orthosis supports and aligns metacarpal arch and stabilizes the thumb in opposition to the index and middle fingers. The Opponens Orthosis with Forearm Support has a volar forearm section that attaches to the opponens piece and provides hand wrist stability for weak or flaccid wrists. It also has 3 velcro straps at the forearm, wrist, and hand. Both Opponens systems may be modified with a variety of available attachments. All systems are available in kit form in a range of sizes, or completely assembled according to accurate measurements, in various skin colors. Preassembled items may need minor fitting adjustments.
